No Pre-Season TV for Kings fans

Apparently no games will be televised from the Kings end for pre-season. (I imagine Kings fans will find a way to follow the games.) Since this is a pretty big deal (for some), I imagine I should make a statement, and nip this in the bud. (H/T TZ for this.)

I don’t care. I was shit out of luck living a 1000 miles away. And, there wasn’t a way I would have paid for to watch pre-season games (along with Vegas Summer League) based mostly on principle.

On the other hand, there are people who were expecting that the Kings would televise these games so they didn’t have to spend money going to Arco. And, that’s why these games are not on TV. The Maloof’s probably charged a very high premium to televise the pre-season for precisely those reason’s. Pre-Season is a waste of money, in my view, in terms of the quality of play. Only the fans who really are hardcore care much about the pre-season.

This is especially true when you consider the price of pre-season tickets are the same as regular season games. The Maloof’s had a wonderful opportunity to sell out the house at a time when they need every bit of interest they can get. Yet, they won’t do it because their bottom line matters to them.

Quite honestly, I’m not sure what exactly is gained by the Maloof’s not selling pre-season tickets cheaply. Or, for that matter pre-season TV rights at less than a premium. (Regular Season is one thing; Pre-Season is another.)

It’s a shame really, but it’s the way it is. As I said, I don’t care. But, there is an entire sect of Kings fans who do, and the Maloof’s punted away a golden opportunity to win some of those fans back. Tsk Tsk!

UPDATE: TZ says it better than I could have.

2nd UPDATE: Amick points out (in an updated version of his own post) that not airing games is related to finances. (Shocked it would work out that way.)
