Game # 17: Indiana Pacers at Kings

Tonight, it’s the matchup of all matchup’s: Pacers vs Kings. Yeah, I’m really looking forward to this one. (Actually, I am looking forward to this matchup. The Pacers have always given the Kings fits, and I’m interested to see if that changes tonight.)

The Pacers play at the 2nd fastest pace in all of the NBA, are 26th in offensive efficiency, and 11th in defensive efficiency.

As TZ noted, Indiana has not shot the 3 pointer well, and that’s probably the reason the Pacers are so low in offensive efficiency. Danny Granger is the only guy with a halfway reasonable %, and that’s only around 35%. (He’s also got 123 attempts so far, and the Pacers have only attempted 230 total. That’s 53.5% for you math wizards.) When Granger isn’t even dragging the team 3pt% down, you know they don’t shoot it well. And, as TZ noted, the main culprit has been Troy Murphy. Tonight would not be a good night for the Kings to let anybody get on track. (So far, the Kings have usually been good about that. We’ll see about this as things move forward though.)

The Kings, by contrast, are 8th in Pace, 9th in defensive efficiency and 22nd in defensive efficiency. (Glad to see that is getting better.) The Kings also shoot the 3 around 38% (as TZ noted), and that’s probably going to be a big difference.

If you’re interested in the offensive & defensive 4 factors, I suggest clicking on this.

Spencer Hawes is supposedly returning (if you believe Grant Napear), and Roy Hibbert should provide a nice foil since the pair are probably linked in the minds of at least a few Kings fans.

Jason Thompson and Troy Murphy should be interesting, and I’m curious to see what the Pacers do in guarding Tyreke Evans tonight. (It will probably be Dahntay Jones as much as possible.)

I’m also intrigued to see what Donte Greene and Andres Nocioni do this in game as I feel both can provide a great boost early on, with their size, to the Kings. These 2 matchup’s may decide the balance of the game with the Pacers.

If you wish to read other Pacers news, Indy Cornrows and Eight Points Nine Seconds are your best bets.

Game is at 7, on CSNCA and 1140. Enjoy!
