Trade now completed Martin to Rockets and Landry/Dorsey to Kings

This is now an official 3 way trade between the Kings, Rockets and Knicks. But don’t fret, I’ll explain it all in case you don’t understand.

The Rockets receive: Jared Jeffries, Jordan Hill and Kevin Martin + the right to swap picks with New York (except the 1st pick), and the Knicks 2012 1st round pick top 5 protected.

The Kings receive: Carl Landry, Joey Dorsey and Larry Hughes

The Knicks receive: Tracy McGrady and Sergio Rodriguez

Now, the mechanics of the deal are the same, and that’s why I wrote the other version as in principle. I knew it might change.

What’s changed is how well the Rockets did for taking on 9.5 million of New York’s salary off their hands. (Which is big given how valuable David Lee is to them.) This is bad for the Kings in that they would have limited opportunities to woo a Chris Bosh. With the more cap room available to the Knicks, it could be very difficult to do that. Oh well, nothing lost if the Kings have 20 million in cap room and they can’t use it on Bosh.

As far as the Rockets, a lot of things will depend on how good those Knicks picks are.

The Kings at one point were rumored to get cash, and now that seems off the table. (I’ll update if I hear differently.) I’m sure the Kings will buyout Larry Hughes if they can for a reasonable buyout. (That was one advantage of dealing with Tmac. You knew if they didn’t trade him they would have to buy him out. Oh well.)

This deal is still about Landry and the cap space this summer. No more and no less. As far as Sergio, Adios Amigo!

UPDATE 1: Apparently Sam Amick is wrong because he said Kenny Thomas and Hilton Armstrong aren’t leaving. Hilton Armstrong is also headed to Houston. Marc Stein on Twitter has the scoop.
