Kings Waive Antoine Wright

Marc Spears reported it, and thusly every blogger on Earth is now mentioning such. If you were looking for my trade assets post, I accidentally deleted some (but not all of it–just the important stuff) of it and have to re-write it again.

As far as Wright himself, once he got the DUI he was pretty much done in Sacramento. Since he proved to be Desmond Mason 2.0, he’s found himself waived. I don’t think there are big financial repercussions since Wright was signed to a veteran minimum contract. These things happen, and if Wright isn’t going to play there is no point keeping him on the roster. It may not be soothing to fans, but this is one of the costs of doing business in the NBA. At least the Kings aren’t holding onto Wright with the naive hope that he will be useful at some point.

This isn’t a big deal unless there is a trade coming down the pike. That IS a big deal. No, I don’t think a trade is necessarily coming. I’m just saying it’s possible.

UPDATE: Hassan Whiteside is now in Reno according to James Ham.

DeMarcus Cousins also got kicked out of practice according to a Jason Jones tweet.

As far as Whiteside, I think it’s a good thing he’s getting minutes somewhere. If it’s the NBDL, it’s a perfect opportunity for him. I don’t think the Kings really need Whiteside, and there are other problems at the moment.

As far as Cousins, Danny Ainge got kicked out of practice by Jerry Reynolds. It doesn’t mean that JR thought Ainge sucked. (He’ll probably say that on the Rise Guys tomorrow.) It’s probably not as big of a deal as some will make it out to be. Unless of course it is, then, well, it is.
